This is a review of the first day of non-incision buried double eyelid surgery for a man in his late 20s by Tobi Plastic Surgery (Director Kim Do-hoon). This is a surgery that I have been considering a lot for a long time. In conclusion, although it is only day 1, the results were satisfactory enough to make me regret not doing it sooner. Because I had thick eyelids, my upper eyelashes hung down like a curtain, and when I tried to open my eyes wide, the roots of my eyelashes curled up and stung my eyes, making me feel stuffy. So, I always walked around with my eyes open small, and my eyes seemed weak and blurry at times. Then, my dry eye & astigmatism got worse recently, and I found out that piercing my eyelashes could be affecting it. After much thought, I decided, “Let’s at least get some counseling,” and after the consultation, I went ahead with the surgery. Like other men, I was also most worried that having double eyelids would change my appearance in a burdensome way. “My goal was to create an inner pair that is as invisible as possible, so that the eyelashes do not stick out without changing the look, and to allow the eyes to open wider to have clearer eyes.” I received consultations from a total of three hospitals to see if I could achieve my goal through double eyelid surgery, and ended up having the surgery at Tobi Plastic Surgery. I learned about Tobi Plastic Surgery Clinic through an acquaintance. I went to see him after hearing that he was satisfied with the entire process, from consultation to surgery, and that he was also satisfied with the results. Tobe Plastic Surgery was the third hospital I went to for a consultation. After the consultation, I liked it so much that I immediately booked the surgery and canceled all of my subsequent consultation appointments. During the consultation process, you first discuss with the consultant the area/concerns you wish to have surgery on. I then proceed with a consultation with the director, where I receive a diagnosis of my eye condition, a surgical method that can solve my concerns, and a rough outline of the surgical procedure. After the consultation with the director, you will be informed of pre- and post-surgery precautions and preparations by the consultant, as well as the cost of the surgery. The director and manager were very kind and provided detailed and thorough consultation. He accurately identified the areas I was concerned about and the areas I wanted, as described above, and recommended only the surgeries I needed. An acquaintance who recommended Tobi Plastic Surgery even carefully checked the director's experience information. Director Kim Do-hoon graduated from Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine and Graduate School and has extensive experience at a large hospital, so I thought he would be someone worth entrusting to me. Surgical process – Pre-surgery information Since the surgery is performed under sedation + local anesthesia, there are certain things to keep in mind before surgery. There were medications and nutritional supplements that I had to stop taking for 1-2 weeks, and I had to fast from all food, including water, for 6 hours right before the surgery. I had some medication to take a week before the surgery, so I took a picture of the medication bag and asked about it through KakaoTalk channel talk. I was immediately told that I could take the medication up to a day before the surgery. Still, I was anxious, so I stopped taking all medications 5 days before the surgery and stopped taking nutritional supplements 2 weeks ago. Surgical Procedure – Preparing for the Day of Surgery You must arrive at the hospital at least 30 minutes prior to surgery. Upon arrival, you will change into surgical clothes, wash your face and gargle. Face wash, gargle, and face towels are provided. Once preparations are complete, face photos are taken from each angle and a final consultation is conducted. The final consultation will be conducted as consultation with the manager -> consultation with the director. The director will check the pre-surgery details again and a consultation will be held with the director. He checked the double eyelid line by looking at the pre-taken photo and my face. The final double eyelid line was marked with a blue pen and the last consultation before surgery was concluded. Surgical procedure – Surgery and immediately after surgery was performed under sedation + local anesthesia for the eyes. The surgery lasted about 15 minutes and there was almost no pain during the surgery. After the surgery was over, I was moved to the recovery room and applied cold compresses to my eyes for about 20 minutes. It is said to be a process to prevent bleeding and swelling. You shouldn't fall asleep right after anesthesia, but you may feel drowsy as you close your eyes while applying cold compresses while under the influence of medicine. If possible, we recommend that you go with your guardian and talk during that time. Surgical Procedure – Return Home and the Remaining Process When you return home, you will be informed of post-operative precautions. You can wash your face the day after removing the stitches, and you can exercise and drink alcohol after 4 weeks. Upon returning home, you will receive a cold compress and a cotton swab, and be prescribed eye ointment and 3 days of antibiotics/painkillers. It is said that you should use cold compresses for 3 days after surgery and heat compresses for 3 days after that. (Use cold compresses during the period of swelling, and use warm compresses during the period of swelling.) The stitches are scheduled to be removed on the 3rd day after surgery. Immediately after surgery, there will be stitches at the end of the double eyelid line. (You can't see it when you open your eyes.) They say you will visit again 2-3 months after the surgery to meet with the doctor and check the progress. Review of the day of surgery Immediately after surgery, I thought my eyes would be burdened by swelling, but the swelling was not as big as I thought. My stuffy eyes felt refreshed, and most of all, I was very satisfied that my eyelashes did not sting my eyes no matter how wide I opened them. The part where I was worried that my impression would change was that my eyes became clearer and I liked it more than I thought. Rather, I regretted not doing it sooner because I was worried. Immediately after surgery, you may feel a foreign body sensation in your eyelids and it may be more difficult to open your eyes. They say it will get better once the stitches are removed and the swelling goes down. They say that you need to practice opening your eyes wide for your double eyelids to settle well, so I try to intentionally open my eyes wide. I think I will be much more satisfied once the swelling goes down and the surgery marks disappear and settle down. I am hoping that when the swelling goes down, the double eyelids will go inward and look more natural.
