A review of double jaw surgery that makes me feel much better after a month.
I'm worried it might look like a hospital promotion, so I won't talk about anything related to the hospital! But even if not here, I recommend having it done at an oral and maxillofacial surgery center or a university hospital... I don't think it's a surgery that can be done at a plastic surgery clinic. If possible, I would like it to be done at a private hospital with strong ties to the orthodontics department.
1. It may be the case in most cases right before surgery, but
it was not a pre-surgery case, and surgery was performed after 6 months of correction. People who are going to have surgery should wait at least 6 months before starting the surgery. It was a general anesthetic, so just in case, I quit drinking and smoking for a week and got my condition under control! I gained some weight too haha.
Right after the surgery, the aftereffects of the general anesthesia were really bad... I was vomiting all night and was exhausted... None of the painkillers, painkiller injections, or stomach sedatives worked. I think it was more because I was weak and underweight. It's not a problem with the surgery itself. Everyone take care of their condition before going into surgery.
2. Pain
As I mentioned above, there was no pain on the day of surgery other than suffering from the side effects of general anesthesia. For about a week, I felt muscle pain in my face and tingling in my mouth at night, so I slept lightly. Since the bone was moved, the skin tissue moved accordingly, causing muscle pain in the face. Do you feel like the growing pains you felt in your knees when you were young have come to your face? If I take the muscle relaxant and Tylenol the hospital gave me for about a week, I can tolerate it.
3.
Everyone said it was difficult to breathe, but it was more bearable than I thought, perhaps because I don't normally swell. I brought a portable humidifier, Otrivin, which is a must-have for Western musicians, but it was humid in the summer, so I didn't need a humidifier (I think summer is actually better for Western musicians), and I ended up using Otrivin for 3-4 days. Of course, on the day of surgery, I mainly breathed through my mouth rather than my nose.
4. Swelling.
Does it really swell like this for 10 days? Pour it like you want. It's literally swollen like a hippopotamus under my forehead... my nose is also completely swollen lol. But I was told at the hospital that I don't have a lot of swelling, so be prepared for swelling. After 2 to 3 weeks, it started to disappear and now I look like an ordinary person with a lot of cheek fat.
5. Overall review:
It’s more worth doing than you think. I'm very scared, so I cried while lying down on the operating table (which is ridiculous when I think about it) and I had several nightmares about the surgery being ruined before the surgery. It was a waste of time worrying like this. The day of surgery was really difficult, but this was due to the side effects of general anesthesia and not the difficulty of the surgery itself
, and it was more bearable than I thought. Since being discharged from the hospital on the third day, I have been doing quite well, going for walks and shopping. It's really okay if you only work hard on the day!
If you are a college student, it is completely possible during vacation, and if you are an office worker, you can return to your daily routine to some extent after a two-week break, assuming your health is good.
6. What to prepare
: Neck pillow (usually provided by hospitals), mirror, tissues, portable humidifier, Otribean, wet tissues, donut cushion, Daiso ketchup container (for eating), paper cup. Is this much?
I heard that I use a lot of tissues and wet wipes, but I didn't use as much as I thought. I even used the ketchup container for 3-4 days and just drank it from a paper cup
